Study Carrels: User Guidelines

Study carrels for individual study are available for all library users on G/F, 3/F South Wing, and 5/F South Wing and North Wing.

User Guidelines

  • Users can use any study carrel with “Vacant” status shown on the carrel occupancy display panel.
  • Users should vacate the carrel when no longer in use.
  • The current occupant of the study carrel should scan the QR code on the carrel occupancy display panel to hold the study carrel if they wish to leave for a short while. The study carrel can be hold for up to 60 minutes.
  • Users should make use of the laptop lockers to keep their laptops or tablets to avoid potential thefts.
  • The carrel occupancy display will automatically revert to “Vacant” when:
    • users leave without placing a hold, or
    • the selected period of hold is over.
Any “Vacant” study carrel may then be taken by other users.
  • Users should therefore return on time if they still want to use the study carrel.
  • Only the users currently holding the carrel can update or release their hold on the study carrel.
  • Each user could only hold one study carrel at a time. Starting a new hold will cancel any previous ones.
  • Users who wish to use a “Vacant” study carrel with unattended items in it should contact Library staff at Service Counter on P/F, or call 2766-6864 during counter hours.

Points to Note

  • The use of carrels shall comply with Library regulations. Users who violate the regulations will be subject to disciplinary action.
  • The carrels are provided to support learning, teaching and research only.
  • The Library reserves the right to remove any unattended belongings from a “Vacant” study carrel and release the study carrel to other users. The Library is not responsible for any loss or damage to your belongings and files.
  • The Library reserves the right to allocate any available study carrel to users, or hold any study carrel from service as needed such as maintenance purposes and events.
