JULAC Library Card

What is a JULAC Library Card?

Eligible PolyU staff and students can apply for a Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee Library Card (JULAC Library Card) to access other UGC-funded libraries.

Some UGC-funded libraries implement limited access periods during times of high library use (e.g. examination periods) when access of JULAC Library cardholders is not allowed. Users are advised to consult individual libraries' webpages for update information of opening hours.

Undergraduate Degree Students

Eligibility:

  • UGC-funded undergraduate degree students (excluding exchange students)

The above undergraduate students are eligible for a JULAC Library Card (Reader) which enables you to access other UGC-funded libraries without any borrowing privileges. Registration is valid until 31st July each year no matter when you register for the card. Renewals will be required annually.

Fees:

  • Free of charge for application
  • HK$50 registration fee will be charged by each host library
  • HK$50 for replacement of lost or damaged card

Postgraduate Students

Eligibility:

  • UGC-funded postgraduate degree students
  • UGC-funded postgraduate non-degree students
  • PolyU's self-financed postgraduate degree students

The above postgraduate students are eligible for a JULAC Library Card (Borrower) which enables you to visit and borrow books from other UGC-funded libraries, subject to regulations of the host library. Books borrowed by PolyU JULAC Library cardholders from other UGC-funded libraries can be returned at the Loan & Return Counter on the Podium Floor, on or before the due date.

Fees:

  • Free of charge for application
  • Free of charge for registration at host library
  • HK$50 for replacement of lost or damaged card

Academic, Research & Administrative Staff

Eligibility:

  • Full-time academic, research and administrative staff of equivalent status

The above staff are eligible for a JULAC Library Card (Borrower) which enables you to visit and borrow books from other UGC-funded libraries, subject to regulations of the host library. Books borrowed by PolyU JULAC Library cardholders from other UGC-funded libraries can be returned at the Loan & Return Counter on the Podium Floor, on or before the due date.

  • Free of charge for application
  • Free of charge for registration at host library
  • HK$50 for replacement of lost or damaged card

Application Procedure (New / Renewal)

  1. Application should be made ONLINE and upload your recent passport photo in JPEG format.
  2. Application will be processed within 2 working days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holidays).  An email notification will be sent to you once the card is ready for pick up at the Loan & Return Counter.
  3. Please bring along the PolyU ID Card and the JULAC Library Card when registering at the host libraries.
  4. Renewal application can be submitted as early as one month before the expiry of the issued JULAC Library Card. 
  5. New application or renewal of the Card will be issued only when all outstanding fees and charges under the applicant’s Library account(s), if any, are paid.

Report Lost / Card Replacement

  1. If a JULAC Library Cardholder lost the Card, he/she is required to report loss of the Card to the PolyU Library ONLINE as soon as possible. 
  2. Afterwards, a replacement Card can be applied ONLINE by uploading a recent passport photo in JPEG format.
  3. Reported lost card will be withdrawn once the Library receives the notification.
  4. HK$50 will be charged for replacement of lost or damaged card.
  5. Replacement Card will be issued only when all outstanding fees and charges under the applicant’s Library account(s), if any, are paid. 
  6. User will be informed by email to pick up the Replacement Card at the Loan & Return Counter within 2 working days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holidays).
