Suspension of Passenger Lifts (19 Sep 2013)

Increased Loan Quota of AV Items & Hold Quota for Students and Staff

To facilitate use of AV materials, the loan quota of AV items for students and staff is now increased to 5 and 8 respectively. All users can also enjoy extended loan period (7 days) for most AV items, while popular movies remain on 3-day loan. In addition, the hold (request) quota of students and staff is increased to 10 and 15 respectively.  Please refer to the following link for your loan privileges

Adding Personal Email Address in Library Accounts – Now Available to All Types of Users

Now all types of users can add their personal email address in their Library accounts. They can do so after entering myRecord.

With the addition, Library circulation notices and reminders will be sent not only to their PolyU official email address but also to their personal email account. For those users without PolyU official email accounts, the Library will only send notices and reminders to their personal email accounts that they have indicated. Users can also update or remove their personal email addresses from their Library accounts.

System Upgrade for OneSearch on 4 Aug, AM

System upgrade for OneSearch will be taking place on 4 Aug 2013, from 9am to 12pm noon.  During the period, there will be limited service and occasional service disruptions for OneSearch service. Other Library services will not be affected. Library users may use Library Classic Catalogue to locate library materials during the time. READ@PolyU 2013 - Recruitment of Staff Facilitators (Library Circular 2013/06b)

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite academic and equivalent administrative staff members to take part in READ@PolyU 2013, the campus-wide common reading programme which is to be kicked off in September this year. 

The Common Book
Following campus-wide consultation, we are pleased to announce that The Hunger Games (Book 1) by Suzanne Collins has been selected as the common book for 2013/14, to be read by all new full-time undergraduate students. A free copy of this book will be distributed to all freshmen in September 2013.

Recruitment of Facilitators
We would like to invite staff members to take up the role of facilitators who would run discussion sessions to encourage students in reading the common book.

Role of Facilitators
   • read the designated book and identify areas of interest / issues for possible discussion 
   • initiate and facilitate discussions, and
   • encourage participation from all group members during the discussion sessions

Schedule and venue for Discussion Sessions 
Discussion sessions will be run from 23 September – 25 October 2013. During this period, each facilitator will run three discussion sessions (1-hour each) for a group of around 10 to 15 students. These sessions can take place in the collaborative learning space in the Library, the Centre for Independent Language Learning (A305), or any other suitable venue. Facilitators are free to determine the format of discussion sessions in accordance with their individual preferred approach and style.

Training for Facilitators
There will be a one-hour training session for facilitators in September 2013, during which a resource guide will be given to each facilitator.

Appreciation
Staff facilitators will be presented with small souvenirs in appreciation of their support.

In this regard, we would like to ask for your help in the following:

ACT Now
We look forward to hearing from you by 27 August 2013. Upon confirmation of the discussion sessions, we shall send each facilitator a complimentary copy of The Hunger Games (Book 1) as well as a confirmation letter in August, with details of the training sessions.

Date Due Reminder for Returning Term Loans (Library Circular:2013/05)

This message is a gentle reminder to all academic, administrative equivalent staff and postgraduate students that all library books on loan to them are due on 26 August 2013. To avoid a last minute rush, please return books before the last day.  Overdue books returned after 26 August 2013 will be subject to a fine of $2.00 (1 - 6 days) and $3.00 (7 - 42 days) per book per calendar day.

Books borrowed or renewed on or after 29 July 2013 will be due for return on 6 January 2014.
