About Library Workshops
Library offers both face-to-face and online workshops on different topics each semester to staff and students of PolyU so as to sharpen their research skills in locating, evaluating, managing and reusing information.
Library Online Courses
To support online learning of PolyU staff and students, the Library has developed TWO courses via Learn@PolyU in this semester. Each online course aims to allow registered students to achieve the same learning outcomes as related face-to-face workshops after being adapted to be delivered in an online environment.
Library Resources and Services for Postgraduate Students
This online course is tailor-made for postgraduate students to get familiar with library services and resources for their learning and research. It aims at helping postgraduate students utilize Library services and resources available in and beyond PolyU Library.

Using EndNote (Part I: Essential Features)
This course is designed for students and staff who have no or little knowledge about EndNote. It will help you learn the key features about EndNote, including how to insert references from different sources and how to cite references in Word document.
Library Face-to-face Workshops
Library conducts face-to-face workshops every semester to help build up essential
skills to support study and research. For students, a series of workshops are
provided on resource hunting, information evaluation, citing references and more.
For early researchers and staff, the content of relevant workshops focuses on
advance research skills, such as how to locate quality journals and introduction
to academic publishing, etc.
The topics for the workshops cover the following themes:
- Theme 1: Essential skills for academic success
- Theme 2: Staying focused: tapping on specialized information tools
- Theme 3: Reference management tools
- Theme 4: Research analysis: tools to support authors and scholarly publishing
In view of the latest circumstances related to the novel coronavirus, library workshops are suspended until further notice.
PolyU staff and students can download full workshop slides via the Handout page. You can also refer to Library Guides for more resources and get help from your Faculty Librarian if needed.
CAT & e-Certificate
Students who have participated in our workshops and online courses will have their attendance recorded in the Co-curricular Achievement Transcript (CAT) issued by the Centre STARS by semester end, after the completion of all Topical Workshops for the semester. Participants can also apply for an e-certificate issued by the Library after logging in to the workshop page (click “CAT & e-Certificate”). E-certificate will be auto-generated for online courses when participants complete the course.
Request a Library Workshop
The “request a library workshop” service is suspended until further notice. Should you need assistance, please contact your Faculty Librarian.
