Notebook and Tablet Self-Service Kiosk

Borrowing a notebook computer or tablet has never been so easy. The notebook computers and tablets loan service has been relocated to a Self-Service Kiosk housed next to the Technical Support Desk at 4/F i-Space. From now on, you can easily identify an available notebook or tablet on the kiosk’s screen. With your student/staff card, NetID and NetPassword, you can check out the computer item you need at a designated kiosk’s compartment.

Remember, you must return the borrowed item to Technical Support Desk, 4/F i-Space, in person.

New Digital Services@i-Space:

  1. Desktop 3D and Book Scanners
Desktop 3D and Book Scanners are now available Digital Visaulisation Room in 4/F i-Space. The Desktop 3D Scanner can capture the size and shape of a physical object into digital 3D models for importing to Unity software for VR game development.

Book Scanner is able to transform an object into a flattened 2D image or auto-removal fingertips from the scanned images.

Current PolyU students and staff are welcome to book the scanners at iBooking.

  1. Photogrammetry software
A photogrammetry software, namely Agisoft Photoscan, is available at i-Space. The Agisoft performs photogrammetric processing of ordinary 2D digital images and generates 3D spatial data. Similar to 3D scanner, the 3D images can be used in VR game software, GIS applications, and visual effects production.

Check out more about application software available at i-Space.

  2. Vinyl Cutter
Vinyl Cutter can cut out shapes from two-layered self-adhesive materials (e.g. vinyl film, sticker paper) for creating decals, stickers and paint mask. Library staff and students used this cutter to turn sticker paper into fabulous contour patterns and decorated the glass panel for the Best of Luck on your Exams campaign in May.
