The deadline for all PolyU students to submit their entries is now EXTENDED to 31 March 2020. Seize this last opportunity!

If you have already submitted and wish to enhance your submission, we would be happy to accept a revised version from you before the new deadline. Otherwise, we will keep your current submission.

Write Your Own Mini-Memoir

What touchstone event, or turning point, occurred in your childhood and that you still remember to this day?

Write a 500-word account of this event from your point of view...and submit for a chance to win great prizes.

Taking inspiration from Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, submissions which are accompanied by an original illustration will receive a bonus point.

Eligibility: All PolyU Students*
Language: English
Format: 500 words (+/- 50 words), Word or PDF document
Submission deadline: 31 March 2020, 11:59 p.m.

To create a more relaxing environment, the Library implements a new drink policy with effect from 8 November 2019. Non-alcoholic drinks in spill-proof containers are now permitted in all study areas of the Library. For details, please refer to the Library Food & Drink Policy.

Do you feel overwhelmed and stressed? Do you need a short break in between studying or working on your assignments?

Visit our new Stretching Corner# now! 

Located in the Group Study Zone 1 (G/F) of the Library, the Stretching Corner can help you recharge and in turn, boost your attention span and learning performance through these facilities: 

  • Videos on stress relief
  • Soothing music
  • Comfortable sofas for relaxing and resting
#All students and staff are welcome to visit the Stretching Corner. No reservation is required. Please be considerate, share and enjoy the relaxing space with one another, keep clean, and put the headphone back to its original position after use.

Venue: Stretching Corner
The Games include Archery in Virtual Reality, pose matching challenge by Move Mirror, etc.

Library will maintain regular hours and close at 11pm from 4 Nov (Mon) to 8 Nov 2019 (Fri). Considering transportation issues, the Library will close at 9pm on 9 Nov (Sat) & 10 Nov 2019 (Sun).

About the speaker:

Victoria Babbit is the Director of Researcher Development and Outreach at Taylor & Francis. Victoria joined Taylor & Francis in 2008 and throughout the past decade has supported societies, editors and authors in the region as they navigate the rapidly changing publishing landscape. In collaboration with the library community and academic institutions, she is actively engaged in building capacity and ensuring publishing success through courses and workshops for early career researchers. Prior to joining Taylor & Francis, Victoria pursued a PhD in Geography, focusing on migration, at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Improve Your Writing Join this hands-on writing workshop led by one of our most experienced writers and language instructors. Understand how to improve your writing and get a head start on writing your own memoir. All are welcome.
