Publishing Journal Articles in Open Access

With increasing emphasis on Open Access (OA) by the Research Grants Council (RGC) and PolyU, understanding how to make your research articles Open Access (OA) is crucial.

Designed for early career researchers who have little to no publishing experience, this seminar will provide you an overview on getting your research published, with a focus on tips you need to know about OA. Our Librarian will also talk about the OA requirements from RGC and PolyU, as well as how the library can support.

About the Speaker:

Victoria Babbit is the Director of Researcher Development & Outreach. She joined Taylor & Francis in 2008 and throughout the past decade has supported researchers as they navigate the rapidly changing publishing landscape. Her work involves engaging with global research communities to build knowledge and capacity related to publishing and editorial activities.

Prior to joining Taylor & Francis, Victoria conducted postgraduate research in Geography at The University of Washington.

New Collaborative Study Space at G/F North Wing

The Library's G/F North Wing for collaborative study has reopened. 15 new group rooms for collaborative work can be reserved in advance by all students and staff through the iBooking System

The Journal Collection A-L housed in the electronic compact shelves is accessible now while the Journal Collection M-Z and Book Collection T-Z in electronic compact shelves can be accessed effective 18 November 2022.

Reopening of 3/F North Wing on 19 October 2022

The open study space of 3/F North Wing has reopened. Ten new Online Meeting Rooms that can be used for online interviews and virtual meetings by a maximum of two persons will also be made available for booking by PolyU students and staff via the iBooking System. When all refurbishment works at 3/F North Wing are finished, there will be five more Studios to support online learning and teaching. Please stay tuned for our updates on the LER Project.

New 24x7 Automated Book Return Station at Campus Entrance near the Library

A new wall-mounted automated Book Return Station has been set up at the campus entrance area near the Library to make it simpler and faster for you to return Library materials even after Library closes. Beginning 10 October 2022, Library users can follow the on-screen instructions, return PolyU books and AV materials, anytime, 24x7, to obtain an immediate update on their Library loan record. Log in to myRecord to see the most recent status of your library loans and fines.

 

  • Location:
    Campus entrance near the Library - Outside the campus turnstiles on the Podium Level near public footbridge connecting to Exit A of Hung Hom MTR Station.
     
  • Service Hours:
    24 hours a day, 7 days a week
     
  • Accepted Items:
    PolyU books and AV materials

Reopening of 3/F South Wing

Notice Tuesday, September 27, 2022 - 15:00
The Library will reopen the 3/F South Wing on 28 September 2022 in an effort to alleviate student demand for study space. Most renovation works in that area are complete but some minor works may be carried out to further enhance the study space there.  3/F South Wing will provide over 300 quiet study space. A number of public workstations and multi-function copiers will also be made available for Library users.   
 
As informed by the Campus Development Office, the renovation works at 3/F North Wing and G/F North Wing of the Library are expected to finish in mid-October 2022. More updates on the renovation can be found on the LER Project website.  
 
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we renovate the Library areas in order to better serve the PolyU community.

Library Orientation 2022

Welcome to PolyU Library! As you embark on your time at university, there is a lot to discover and the Library is always here for you!

For the first time, our freshman orientation will be held at The Forum which is located on the new panoramic 6/F of the Library. Five orientation sessions have been planned for you.

 

Come meet your Librarians and become familiar with important information like:

  • finding textbooks and course-related materials
  • locating computing facilities and printing services
  • availability of self-study and discussion spaces

Unavailability of Book Collection T-Z and Bound Journals at G/F North Wing

The G/F North Wing of the Library is now under renovation and the construction works are scheduled to complete by the end of August 2022. As informed by Campus Development Office, there will be no power supply to the affected area during the renovation period. As a result, users will have no access to Book Collection T-Z and the bound journals housed in the electronic compact shelves located at G/F North Wing until the renovation finishes.  

As an interim measure, the Library has adjusted the configuration of the Library System so that eligible users can request and get the affected books from other UGC-funded university libraries via HKALL service (if available), and make Interlibrary Loan requests for articles of the affected print journals if necessary.
