[LER] Closure of Toilets at Staircase No. 1 Areas and Provision of Drinking Water Dispensers (17 May to Mid-Sep 2021)

To improve and upgrade the toilet facilities, the toilets at Staircase No. 1 areas are temporarily closed from 17 May 2021 to Mid-September 2021 for renovation. During this period, Library users may use the toilets at Staircase No. 2 areas as follows:

Users who need to use the Accessible Toilet, please approach Loan & Return Counter (P/F) or call 2766-6864 for assistance.

Alternative Overnight Study Space
The 24-hour Study Centre located on G/F is now closed but alternative overnight study space is available in CD301 - 304 and Communal Space. For details, please click here.


Quiet Study Environment
Silence must be observed in the Library except in designated areas. Users who do not comply with the policy may be asked to leave the Library.


A Variety of Individual Study Spaces
Study carrels are available on 4/F and 5/F for walk-in use. Research carrels (Zone A and Zone C) and study seats in Research Carrels (Zone B) on 3/F are open for booking by eligible users one day in advance via iBooking System.


Be Considerate and Check out Facilities after Use
Tap your PolyU ID Card on the check-out reader nearby to release your booked group rooms on G/F and 3/F, research carrels, and study seats in carrels on 3/F after use.

Suspension of flushing water supply in Library toilets (2-5 Apr)

Due to the repair and reinstatement of flush pipe works arranged by the University’s Facilities Management Office, the supply of flushing water will be suspended in all Library toilets from 2 Apr to 5 Apr.

The Facilities Management Office will arrange frequent cleaning service and water buckets for toilet flushing.

Re-opening of the Library on 27 Mar 2021

Normal Library services resumed on 27 Mar 2021.

Thorough disinfection has been carried out in all study areas, toilets, staircases, passenger lifts, service counters, office areas, computing and printing equipment, ventilation system and water dispensers.  All library staff, security and cleaning staff, LibCafe staff and contractor workers in the Library have complied with the requirements of the Compulsory Testing Notice. The Library will continue to implement a series of precautionary measures to safeguard the health of library users and staff.  

Return of books and AV items
For items that are due on 25 Mar or 26 Mar 2021, please return them by 29 Mar 2021.


Picking up of books or AV items Requested
Users who have been notified to pick up the requested books or AV items by 25 Mar or 26 Mar can pick up the item(s) by 29 Mar 2021.

Please be reminded that library users are required to always wear a mask properly that cover their mouth and nose, practice social distancing, use only seats with chairs, and observe personal hygiene.

Temporary Library Closure (25-26 Mar)

As the Library building is included in the Government Gazettes Compulsory Testing Notice issued on 24 March 2021 at 20:52, it will be temporarily closed from 25 to 26 Mar 2021 for thorough disinfection, and will resume normal operations on Saturday, 27 Mar 2021 (8:30am – 10pm) tentatively.

For details about the compulsory testing requirement for Library users, please refer to the Government Gazettes Compulsory Testing Notice, and the Government website on Compulsory Testing for Specified Premises.  Any enquiries on compulsory testing arrangements may be addressed to the hotline at 6275 6901, which operates daily from 9am to 6pm. 

Return of books and AV items
For items that are due on 25 Mar or 26 Mar, no fines will be incurred if the items are returned within 3 days after the Library re-opens.

Users may also return books and AV items to our book drop located outside the campus turnstiles on the Podium Level near public footbridge towards Exit A Hung Hom MTR Station. The items returned to the book drop during the Library closure period (25-26 Mar tentatively) will be processed as returned on 24 Mar 2021.

Picking up of books or AV items Requested
Users who have been notified to pick up the requested books or AV items by 25 Mar or 26 Mar can pick up the item(s) within 3 days after the Library re-opens.

Reopening of Group Rooms Effective 16 Feb 2021

All group rooms will be reopened on 16 Feb 2021. Eligible users may reserve the facility via iBooking system one day in advance. As a precautionary measure, the capacity of each group room will be capped at 4 users.

To protect oneself and others, all Library users are reminded to

  • Wear a mask properly at all times;
  • Observe the Library Food & Drink Policy. Put the mask back on as soon as possible after drinking. Do not consume any drinks when walking. 
  • Keep a safe social distance with others and not to move the tables and chairs away from their original places.

Group Discussion Areas on G/F to Reopen on 18 Jan

Moving into a new semester, the Library will reopen the group discussion areas on G/F with effect from 18 Jan 2021. All group rooms remain closed.

Resumption of access to JULAC Library Card holders from 4 Jan 2021

Valid JULAC Library Card holders may access the PolyU Library from 4 Jan 2021.

To enter the PolyU campus, JULAC Library Card holders are required to present their valid JULAC Library Card and ID card or other proof of identity, and sign the University’s travel and health status declaration form at the registration counter at any of the following campus entrances on their first visit:

  • Entrance at Podium Level (via public footbridge from Exit A of MTR Hung Hom station)
  • Entrance at the Fountain Square near Core A

* As informed by the University’s Facilities Management Office, Library card holders will be required to submit the declaration again when their card is renewed or replaced, or if there are any subsequent changes in their travel and/or health status, or upon University management’s latest instruction.

Please note that all users must be wearing a mask to be allowed entry into the campus and the Library. To protect oneself and others, all Library users are reminded to
