READ@PolyU: Get your Common Book and Join a Book Chat Session

READ@PolyU 2026 has begun! Our campus-wide reading programme aims to foster a love of reading across PolyU. Each year, we select an award-winning common book for every student to read along.

This year’s pick is AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future by Kai-Fu Lee and Chen Qiufan — a collection of sci-fi stories blended with technological analysis. Through ten stories set in our future, the authors explore a changing world where characters confront the unintended consequences and sudden opportunities of new tech.

By unmasking the friction between automated efficiency and human agency, the book reminds us that while the challenges are real, the final choices belong to us.

The Library is thrilled and honoured to announce that the PolyU Open Educational Resources (OER) Portal has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Open Education Awards for Excellence 2026 in the Open Practice ("How We Share") category. Presented annually by Open Education Global (OEGlobal), these awards recognize outstanding achievements within the global open education community.

Selected from over 200 nominations across 49 countries, the PolyU OER Portal stands out by transforming traditional search strategies through OlivER, an innovative AI chatbot assistant. Unlike conventional repositories, the Portal employs a unique three-way crowdsourcing model—uniting librarians as architects, instructors as producers, and students as co-curators—to address critical gaps in specialized disciplines like Design and Fashion. This recognition highlights PolyU’s commitment to advancing educational equity and student success through community-driven, intelligently curated digital infrastructure.

Celebrating the Winners of the 2025/26 Metaverse + AI Contest

With the generous sponsorship of the Shun Hing Education & Charity Fund, the Department of Computing and the Library successfully co-organised the 2025/26 Metaverse + AI Contest.

The contestants showcased truly creative ideas and technical skills by building VR games using AI tools. The competition was intense, and the judges found the projects impressive. The event concluded with a lively prize presentation ceremony on 21 July 2026.

Imagine using only brush, ink, and water to conjure infinite landscapes onto a delicate scroll. In Records of Famous Paintings of Past Dynasties, the authoritative Tang art historian Zhang Yanyuan remarked: “Deploying ink to achieve the effect of the five colours.”  Varying the dryness and wetness of ink allows monochrome tones to evoke a vivid colour palette. However, ink is only the beginning.

Driven by innovation, Chinese art continually transformed monochrome “ink” into a vibrant world of colour.  While "Ink" captures the profound philosophical spirit of traditional Chinese painting, "Colour" reflects both the brilliance of ancient crafts and the boldness of contemporary innovation and art movements.  This exhibition traces that evolution, breaking the boundaries of black and white from Neolithic painted pottery to avant-garde new ink.

Featuring a curated selection of Chinese and English research volumes, this exhibition explores traditional painting, calligraphy, ceramics, decorative arts, and contemporary culture, allowing you to understand the aesthetic traditions and historical significance of Chinese art.

想像一下，僅憑一筆一墨、一水一紙，就能在方寸之間暈染出萬千氣象的山河大地。唐代權威藝術史論家張彥遠於《歷代名畫記》中提出「運墨而五色具」的概念，指出透過調整水墨比例，可呈現濃、淡、乾、濕等豐富層次，道出東方美學以墨顯色的奧妙。然而，墨色並非終點，而是蛻變的起點。

藝術的創新浪潮，將「墨」昇華為「彩」。從新石器時代彩陶的原始質樸，到當代新水墨的大膽先鋒，水墨已不再局限於黑白層次，而是與不同工藝及當代色彩深度交融。「墨」代表傳統水墨的深厚文化內涵與精神境界；「彩」則展現古代工藝的絢爛與當代色彩的突破。
