Security for Off-campus access to Electronic Resources

Launching New Library Homepage

Migration of the new Library homepage is scheduled in the evening of 21 July, from 10pm to 4am of the next day. There will be service interruptions of Library homepage, OneSearch and Classic Catalogue during the time.

24-hour Study Centre – Closed Temporarily on 4 July AM

The 24-hour Study Centre (L001) will be temporarily closed for carpet cleaning from 8:30 am to 12 noon on 4 July 2013.

For group discussion, please use the opposite Group Discussion Room (L010) in the Library during the period.

Re-indexing of the Library system database is scheduled on 4 June from 1am-8am. You may experience slow response when searching the Library Classic Catalogue during the period. Thereafter, you can refine your searches in the Library Classic Catalogue by limiting search results to the following categories:

24-hour Study Centre CLOSED on 31 May 2013 at 11 pm

Default PIN for Library Account

Effective 1 Jun 2013, a default PIN (personal identification number) will be added to all new Library accounts (myRecord) and accounts with no PIN set up yet. The default PIN is the first 6 alphanumeric characters of HKID or passport (or mainland ID) number. For example, for a user with HKID no. A123456(7), the default PIN is A12345. For a user with no HKID card, but with passport number AB12345KK, the default PIN is AB1234. Please change your PIN after first login.

Users with PIN already set up will NOT be affected.

Scenes-urban-rural-HongKong-China: Alex Lui Solo Exhibition (13 May – 31 Aug 2013)

Themed “Scenes-urban-rural-Hong Kong-China”, the Exhibition presented in the Library features Mr Lui’s works on various scenes of the urban and the rural areas from the 1990’s to the present. The 84 pieces of exhibits, ranging from architectural drawings, Chinese ink paintings, water color and pastel paintings to charcoal and pencil drawings and sketches, capture the sentimental journey of Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland over the last two decades. (For PolyU and Staff only.)

 

Limited Access Arrangement for JULAC Student Card Holders during Exam Period (4-29 May)

Due to very high demand for study space during revision and examination period, the Library will implement Limited Access Arrangement for JULAC Student Borrower/Reader Card Holders from 4-29 May 2013. During the period, access to the PolyU Library by students of other UGC institutions will be limited to non-peak hours (6:01-11:00pm) of the day only. Normal access will resume after the examination period. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause.

 

Publishing Strategies for the Open Access Era: Collaboration with Springer Nature

The Library has recently signed a Transformative Agreement (TA) with Springer Nature, enabling PolyU authors to publish open access articles with a full waiver of APC. As part of this agreement, a limited quota of APC waivers is offered by Springer Nature for each year on a first-come-first-served basis. This seminar will provide you with valuable insights into this agreement and guide you through the process of submitting your publications to take advantage of this waiver.

Mimmi Mononen
Associate Editor, PHD, Springer Nature, China

Mimmi joined Nature Communications in September 2022. She received her PhD from Karolinska Institutet, where she studied early human heart development using single-cell RNA sequencing. She continued using single-cell technologies during her postdoc at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where she worked on cancer stem cells. Mimmi handles manuscripts relating to single-cell biology. She is based in the Hong Kong office.
