Wearable Blessings: Traditional Chinese Children's Clothing

One of the most important rituals that parents carry out to give their blessings and provide protection to their children in traditional Chinese society is to dress them in clothing and give them accessories with auspicious patterns. The belief is that these patterns will repel evil spirits and also signify their hopes for the good health and good fortune of their children.

A mini exhibition organized by the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) now showcases 11 unique children’s clothing, which incorporated traditional auspicious patterns in their design together with modern styles and craftsmanship to give visitors new insights into Chinese children's wear. Details of the exhibition are as follows:

Date: 9 Apr to 10 Jun 2016*
Venue: P/F of the Library
Remarks: For valid PolyU Library cardholders only.

* The exhibition will close at 5pm on 10 Jun 2016.
