The North-China Daily News & Herald, Limited was Shanghai's largest British-founded press agency in the 1800s. The company published several Chinese and English newspapers, which detailed the past century's social events in modern China and interpreted the tortuous historical development from different perspectives. It consists of the North-China Herald《北華捷報》, The North-China Daily News《字林西報》, The North-China Desk Hong List《字林西報行名錄》, The Chinese Shipping List & Advertiser《上海新報》, Hu Bao《滬報》, Han Bao《漢報》, Xiao Xian Bao《消閒報》.

字林洋行是十九世紀英商在上海創辦的最主要的新聞出版機構，也是當時英商在中國最大的報業印刷出版集團。旗下的一系列中英文報紙，具體詳盡地記載了近代中國百年的社會場景。
