Here comes the highlight of READ@PolyU campus‑wide reading programme this year.
Join us for an exclusive conversation with award‑winning science fiction author Mr Chen Qiufan, the creator of the stories in AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future, the READ@PolyU Common Book 2026.
In this talk, you’ll go behind the scenes of how these ten futuristic stories were imagined—and what they reveal about AI, society, and the choices we all face.

After the deadline, we will send your submitted questions to Mr Chen for selection. If your question is chosen, you will receive another bestselling book by Mr Chen as a prize. During the Q&A, Mr Chen will answer the Instagram questions first, before taking questions from the live and Zoom audience.
Mr Chen Qiufan (aka Stanley Chan) is one of China’s most influential contemporary science fiction writers and a leading voice on technology and the future. Born in 1981 in Guangdong, he has published dozens of stories and novels that blend speculative imagination with sharp realism. His debut novel, Waste Tide, has been translated into multiple languages and won international acclaim, while his 2021 book AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future (co‑authored with Kai‑Fu Lee) became a global bestseller. Chen serves as President of the World Chinese Science Fiction Association and has held fellowships at Yale University and the Berggruen Institute.

READ@PolyU 2026 has begun! Our campus-wide reading programme aims to foster a love of reading across PolyU. Each year, we select an award-winning common book for every student to read along.
This year’s pick is AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future by Kai-Fu Lee and Chen Qiufan — a collection of sci-fi stories blended with technological analysis. Through ten stories set in our future, the authors explore a changing world where characters confront the unintended consequences and sudden opportunities of new tech.
By unmasking the friction between automated efficiency and human agency, the book reminds us that while the challenges are real, the final choices belong to us.

Unlike conventional repositories, the Portal employs a unique three-way crowdsourcing model—uniting librarians as architects, instructors as producers, and students as co-curators—to address critical gaps in specialized disciplines like Design and Fashion. This recognition highlights PolyU’s commitment to advancing educational equity and student success through community-driven, intelligently curated digital infrastructure.

With the generous sponsorship of the Shun Hing Education & Charity Fund, the Department of Computing and the Library successfully co-organised the 2025/26 Metaverse + AI Contest.
The contestants showcased truly creative ideas and technical skills by building VR games using AI tools. The competition was intense, and the judges found the projects impressive. The event concluded with a lively prize presentation ceremony on 21 July 2026.
