Aeronautics and Space Flight: Global Origins of Modern Aviation and Rocketry is a fully searchable, digitized collection of primary source documents on aerospace engineering, rocketry, and aviation from 1957 to 1995. The collection supports a wide range of STEM and humanities disciplines. Thus, researchers can easily explore topics such as satellite communications, astrophysics, and wartime technology.

The collection also includes the Global Origins of Modern Science and Technology series, which includes related collections on bioethics, computing, climate science, and nuclear energy. Moreover, the collection offers unique international sources, including tens of thousands of journal articles, government publications, newspapers, magazines, and translated television and radio broadcasts collected by the CIA.

This archive captures the remarkable pace of aeronautics during the Cold War era—from the military impact of B52 bombers to the Apollo 11 moon landing and the rise of commercial aviation.

The Library is thrilled to announce that we've been selected as a finalist for the 2026 Clarivate Library Innovation Awards, in recognition of our AI and digital transformation initiatives across core functions including resource discovery, learning and research support, operational efficiency, and staff capability building.

The Clarivate Library Innovation Awards celebrate libraries that are transforming their communities through creativity, technology, and meaningful impact. Recognising excellence across the global library community, the awards honour the initiatives shaping the future of information and access. From a diverse, high-calibre pool of entries spanning across 11 countries and regions, the finalist were carefully selected by an independent panel of judges, including leaders from global library organisations. PolyU Library is one of the three finalists in IGeLU Member Category (Academic Libraries - International).

Since 2024, PolyU Library's AI transformation initiative has demonstrated how strategic, inclusive innovation — grounded in user needs, staff empowerment, and sustainable technologies — can redefine the academic library as a proactive engine of institutional advancement.
