Nature Journals have a very long and proud history of publishing some of the most high-quality and impactful research in the world.  

In this webinar, Dr Yang Xia, the Senior Editor from Nature, will share with us more about Nature Journals, their editorial process, and some tips on journal publishing. The following topics will be discussed:   

  • Overview of Nature Publishing Group 
  • Editorial process at Nature-branded research journals
  • Prepare your manuscript for submission 
  • Handle editor and reviewers’ comments and rejection
  • Publishing environmental and interdisciplinary research in Nature journals

About the Speaker:

Dr Yang Xia is a senior editor of Nature and used to be an editor of Nature Communications during 2017-2020. She works as the first Economics science editor at both journals. She currently handles manuscripts on socio-economics, climate-related health risks, climate policy and sustainability.

Dr Xia obtained her PhD in ecological economics from the University of East Anglia, where her research focuses on quantitative assessment of the socioeconomic impacts of health outcomes resulting from disasters such as heat-waves and air pollution. She had a BSc in economics and a MSc in sustainability, both from the University of Leeds.

Dr. Yu-Ru (Wallis) Liu received PhD of Genetics from the University of Nottingham in the UK. Later, she carried out her postdoctoral research in developmental biology in the University of Dundee in the UK and cancer research in the University of Rochester in the US, respectively. Her broad interests and knowledge of science brought her to JoVE. As a Curriculum Specialist, Wallis is looking forward to dedicating her comprehensiveness in tailoring the best material for you to be successful in teaching and research.

READ@PolyU: Suggest a Common Book for 2022 to Win a Prize!

Dear Staff and Students at PolyU,

Help us kick-start READ@PolyU 2022! Send us your favorite fiction written in English as the Common Book nomination for our reading next year.

READ@PolyU rallies the whole campus to read a common book together. All students will be eligible to receive a free print copy of the Common Book and join the Book Chat Group membership. The PolyU community are welcome to join the book talks and other fascinating activities designed to enhance their reading experience.

The Programme Committee will review all nominations before making the final selection.

To encourage participation, PolyU students and staff who have submitted a nomination will be automatically enrolled into the lucky draw. We will give away a few copies of the selected Common Book to the lucky draw winners.

Submit your best book titles, along with the author’s name, to lbread@polyu.edu.hk by 19 November 2021 (Friday). There is no limit to the number of book titles you can submit.

Criteria for Common Book selection:

  • The book will be in English, preferably less than 300 pages
  • It should be engaging for the PolyU community (both Faculty and students)
  • It should be accessible, not difficult to read
  • It should appeal to students’ imagination, and should include some elements of exploration of and reflection on multi-cultural issues
  • It should preferably have been adapted for film
  • It should preferably have an electronic version
  • It should preferably have won international and critical acclaim
  • Ideally, the author would be available to visit PolyU

To enhance user experience, the Library website has been revamped with a fresh new look. The highlights of the website redesign include:
1. Refreshed overall look and feel of the website.
2. Enhanced navigation and content display for a wide array of mobile devices.
3. Sticky navigation sidebar to make frequently used library services visible at all times.
4. Display of real-time availability of loanable notebook computers.
5. Improved navigation for quick and easy access to information on library resources, services, events and projects.
6. Social media sharing feature at the top of each web page.

各位理大同學,擴闊國際視野,提升文化涵養的機會又來了!誠邀大家參加2021「笹川杯品書知日本」徵文比賽,以千五至二千字分享你對日本相關書籍的讀後感。你將有機會免費前往日本作深度體驗及交流。比賽詳情如下:

「笹川杯品書知日本」2021徵文大獎賽

「笹川杯品書知日本」2021徵文比賽,旨在鼓勵全國包括港澳地區的大學生通過閱讀各類與日本相關的書籍,撰寫論文、讀後感等體裁的文章,激發大學生對日本社會、經濟、文化等領域進行深入了解和研究的興趣。

為配合是項比賽,圖書館亦於6月7日至8月13日期間,同步在實體及網上舉辧以日本為主題的書籍展覽。歡迎同學借閲好書,再踴躍投稿。

徵文要求

  1. 徵文
    閱讀各種、各類與日本相關的圖書,之後所撰寫的論文、感想文、體會文等文章。
  2. 截止時間
    各參賽者須於2021年8月13日或之前向本校投稿。學校將會選出兩篇徵文推薦參加全國決賽。
  3. 徵文對象
    所有理大學生
  4. 投稿方式
    1) 請通過電郵投稿,徵文稿須為word格式。
    2) 投稿接收郵箱: lbueo@polyu.edu.hk
    3) 投稿電郵主題請寫:《品書知日本2021》投稿
    4) 徵文稿件的檔案名格式為:姓名--學生証號碼--徵文的標題。例如:張三--20123456D--京都 漫步
    5) 本次比賽進入全國決賽階段後,將採用匿名審稿機制,請確定文章內沒有出現姓名和學校資料。
  5. 稿件要求
    1) 徵文語言:中文/日文
    2) 字數限制:1500-2000字(不符合字數要求的徵文將被篩除)
    3) 文章體裁:自由(散文、詩歌除外)
    4) 格式要求:本次比賽以「書」為主題,請在文末以章節附註形式注明所閱圖書名稱及參考文獻。
  6. 徵文聲明:
    1) 參加過其他徵文活動並獲獎的作品不能參選。
    2) 獲獎作品的版權歸本活動主辦者所有,獲獎作品不能參加其他同類徵文活動。
    3) 應徵作品一律不予退稿,請參賽者自留底稿。
  7. 徵文獎勵
    1) 理大校初選:
    本次徵文大獎賽將在全校投稿作品中,推薦兩篇參加全國決賽之評選。理大圖書館將為兩名被推薦學生各頒發證書及圖書禮券港幣500元。
    2) 全國決賽評選:
    一等獎5名;二等獎10名;最佳組織獎5個。
    所有獲獎者將獲得由主辦單位頒發的獲獎證書。其中,5名一等獎的得獎者將被邀請於2022年2月(暫定)進行為期8天的訪日交流。二等獎的得獎者及最佳組織獎之得獎者將獲得相應的獎品。
