Dive into Digital Humanities: Explore the Green Deck Project Development Study

The PolyU Library is delighted to announce the launch of its latest digital humanities project, "Turning Grey to Green: The Green Deck Project Development Study".  Since 2012, PolyU's Green Deck initiative has been studying the transformation of the Hung Hom Cross Harbour Tunnel Toll Plaza into a vibrant and sustainable urban green space.  This project website showcases a comprehensive collection of resources, including publicity materials and reports from PolyU’s Green Deck Management Office, academic research, presentations, and media coverage. An interactive timeline provides an engaging way for users to explore the project’s progress, while other key highlights include community engagement efforts and a map showcasing activities across Hong Kong and beyond.

Have you spotted a new face at the Self-Service Borrow and Return Stations on P/F? We’re excited to introduce our Book Transport Robot!

After you return your borrowed items at the self-check station, simply place them into the robot! This innovative device is designed to streamline our workflow by effortlessly transporting books from the self-check stations to the service counter.

The robot comes with advanced sensors to monitor the fullness of its bin. When it’s time to unload, our staff can easily call it back to the counter.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to integrating AI and digital technologies into library services, enhancing our operational efficiency and improving your library experience.

So next time you return a book, keep an eye out for our robotic helper!

Ms Lucia Schoombee
Subject Matter Expert, Elsevier

Lucia is a Subject Matter Expert with Elsevier, specializing in research analytics. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, she supports the optimization of analytical tools and databases such as Scopus and SciVal. Her role includes developing and expanding Elsevier partnerships and enhancing their value through consultation and capacity-building programs. She has authored studies on research management and regularly teaches about the application of research metrics. Lucia holds an MPhil in Science and Technology Studies from Stellenbosch University and is currently a PhD candidate focusing on Science and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr Yan Li
Senior Scientific Editor, Cell Press

Dr Li works at Cell Press, where he currently serves as a Senior Scientific Editor for the materials science journal Matter and the open-access physical science journal Cell Reports Physical Science. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Tsinghua University and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Houston and Wageningen University. Prior to joining Cell Press, he worked as a journal editor at Wiley for many years.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the new PolyU Library History website! This extensive chronicle invites you on a captivating journey through the Library's evolution, highlighting the key moments that have transformed it into the vibrant learning hub it is today.

Starting from the I.C.I. Library at the Hung Hom campus and the Quarry Bay Centre, the Library has evolved in tandem with the University. Significant milestones include the consolidation of services into our present building in 1976, the renaming in honour of Sir Yue-kong Pao in 1995, and the cutting-edge 6th-floor extension completed in 2022.

The website also features notable accomplishments, such as the introduction of Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL), the award-winning READ@PolyU and MakerMindset@i-Space programmes, and the launch of the Outstanding Work by Students (OWS) Showcase.
