This collection covers Ecuador's post-WWII period, during which banana exports maintained relative political stability in which three presidents, Galo Plaza Lasso (1948-1952), José María Velasco Ibarra (1952-1956), and Camilo Ponce Enríquez (1956-1960), completed their constitutional terms, and made possible expanded government investments in economic and social infrastructure and promoted population movement from the sierra to the coast. The documents found in these files are predominantly instructions to – and despatches from – U.S. diplomatic and consular officials, often accompanied by enclosures, addressing the political affairs and concerns affecting Ecuador.
