Adlai E. Stevenson (1900-1965), presidential candidate in 1952 and 1956, was the leading Democrat and a major figure in American politics and diplomacy during the Cold War years. This module contains Stevenson's office correspondence from 1919 to 1965. It provides rich documentation for Stevenson's political activities during the 1950s and his involvement in international affairs in the 1950s and first half of the 1960s. It sheds light on policymaking in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations as well the many political and literary figures he counted as his friends and colleagues. Although most of the correspondence pertains to Stevenson's political career, some personal correspondence is also included.
