Student Requested Workshops

The Library has been offering small group instruction sessions in the form of student requested workshops.
We can help you to work on your project or assignment:
  • to determine an appropriate scope of investigation
  • to deal with complex research by breaking complex questions into simple ones, limiting the scope of investigation
  • to gather creditable information from multiple sources

Apart from the above, we would like to bring up important concepts in information finding and knowledge creation. One of which is “searching as strategic exploration”.

We have helped students from different subject areas. For example, a group of students was working on a research topic regarding organ donation.

Faculty Librarian:
  • Discussed with participants to help determining the initial scope of the task required to meet their information needs.
  • Matched information needs and search strategies to appropriate search tools.
  • Demonstrated how to use different types of searching language (e.g., controlled vocabulary, keywords, natural language) appropriately.

The aim of the session is to equip the group of students to manage their searching processes and results effectively.

Some core database discussed and used during the sessions were:

In such small group settings, participants were able to interact with Faculty Librarian and clarify issues instantly during the session.
If you want to request a Library workshop for your project group, please submit your request via the Request Library Workshop Online Application.

Student Rover Service

This the 4th year we provide the service to our Library users. Our team of rovers handled over 3,000 enquiries every year. Many of them are quick instructions on using Library Homepage features and the use of learning facilities in the Library. We are very pleased that our rovers have been doing a great job and Library users are very appreciative of their services.
