PC Upgrade in Research Enhancement Centre (REC) and Multimedia Commons (MC)

Eighty public computers in 3/F Research Enhancement Centre and Multimedia Commons have been upgraded with faster CPU and more RAM. It is the Library’s plan to upgrade to Win10 and MS Office 2016 for these new PCs in this summer.

myRecord Login using NetID

The Library has successfully linked its system to the University Identity and Access Management Infrastructure (i.e. PUsecure) with the support of ITS. PolyU students and staff can now login to myRecord in Classic Catalogue and OneSearch using NetID and NetPassword. Other Library users will remain using their Library Number and PIN for login.

SCMP ePaper on Interactive Kiosk

You can now read the electronic version of South China Morning Post in large font at the interactive kiosk in the P/F Current Awareness Centre. With the touch screen, you can scroll to view previous or next pages as you like.

Printing Services – Overview

Besides providing regular printers and copiers on all floors to support user’s printing and copying in black & white, the Library also provides the following printing services to accommodate users’ needs.

1. Scanning
If you need to scan documents in size up to A3, you are able to do so with the high-speed colour scanner provided the following areas:

• Multimedia Commons (3/F)
• Research Enhancement Centre (3/F)
• Discussion Zone 1 (G/F)

Two flatbed colour scanners for document size up to A4 are connected to two respective graphic PCs (REC WS-13 and REC WS-14). You can reserve these two PCs in advance on iBooking.

 

2. Colour Printing and Copying
Colour printers/copiers are available in the following locations for making printouts and copies up to A3 size.

• Multimedia Commons (3/F)
• Research Enhancement Centre (3/F)

 

3. Large Format or Poster Printing & Scanning
Four plotters are available to support poster or large format printing/scanning in black & white and colour from size A2 to 60-inch print width. Users can request the service in Technical Support Desk in 3/F REC.

4. 3D Printing
3D Printing Service is available by appointment via the iBooking system. Users can request to print their STL files to 3D objects in dimension within 300mm x 350mm x 400mm (H).

5. Other Printing Related Services
The following services are also provided at the Technical Support Desk in 3/F REC:

• Thermal Binding (From 1.5mm to 54mm, up to 540 pages)

• Laminating Service (ID card size to A3)

• Sale of Foam Boards (Size A1 – A0)

Recycle Paper for Copiers

For a greener environment, recycle paper is now used in all public copiers in the Library. Users are welcome to give us feedback to this arrangement via the Library’s Online Suggestion Box.

Phase out of Flexicards

The Library will phase out Flexicards for printing and copying service after 30 June 2016. If you still have any Flexicard in hand, you are encouraged to use up the stored value in the card as soon as possible and return the cards to 3/F Technical Support Desk not later than 30 June 2016 for deposit refund. Note that the remaining value stored in the cards will NOT be refunded.
