READ@PolyU: Suggest the 2026 Common Book and Win a Prize!

READ@PolyU is a common reading programme designed to inspire a love of reading through meaningful, cross‑cultural dialogues on campus. Every year, we distribute print copies of the selected common book to students and organise a variety of interactive activities to enrich their reading experience.

We invite you to participate in the common book nomination for 2026! Which book do you think the PolyU community should read together next year? Please send your book recommendations, including titles and authors, to lbread@polyu.edu.hk by 15 December 2025 (Monday). You are welcome to nominate as many titles as you wish.

All PolyU students and staff who send in their suggestions will automatically enter our lucky draw, where winners will each be rewarded with a small gift as a token of appreciation.

The Programme Committee will review all nominations before making the final selection.

What we look for in a common book:

  • The book will be in English, preferably less than 300 pages.
  • It should be engaging for the PolyU community.
  • It should be accessible, not difficult to read.
  • It should appeal to students' imagination, and should include some elements of exploration and reflection on multi‑cultural issues.
  • It should preferably have been adapted for film.
  • It should preferably have an electronic version.
  • It should preferably have won international and critical acclaim.
  • Ideally, the author would be available to visit PolyU.

Sample titles suggested by staff and students:

  • One Day by David Nicholls
  • Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
  • The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
