New workshop series: E-discovery

To cater for various information needs of Library patrons, the Library launched a series of E-discovery workshops in this academic year. Just 30 minutes during lunchtime, we aim to demonstrate to workshop participants some quick and essential features of a single database, thus allowing them to have a quick overview of databases they want to know more about! We are more than happy to answer their questions!!

In this semester, we will have the following sessions:

  • LSE-05 E-discovery – Passport Feb 13 (Tue)
  • LSE-03 E-discovery - WiseNews Feb 26 (Mon)
  • LSE-04 E-discovery - Embase Mar 6 (Tue)

See you at lunch time 1:00 pm -1:30 pm!!!

Helping students to achieve better grades

Apart from providing workshops and liaising with faculty members to provide information literacy training for students, the Library also works with different units of the University to help students in their studies and research. For example, organising information resources workshops for CAR (Cluster Area Requirements) subjects.  Recently, we also supported the Learning Enhancement Programme (LEP). Coordinated by the Office of Counselling and Wellness, LEP is designed to assist students to achieve their academic goals. It aims to equip students with skills to become effective and independent learners.

Starting this year, Library has developed workshops to provide support to peer tutors, introducing them to essential information skills and sources, so that they will be well versed in sharing their findings and experience with their tutees.

The first briefing session was held successfully in Dec 2017. Two more sessions were conducted in Jan 2018. We were thrilled to meet the young and energetic peer tutors!

Finish your CAR assignment FASTER and SMARTER!

Collaborating with OGUR (Office of General University Requirements), the Library has developed workshops specially designed to help students in their research process in their CAR assignment. Participants will have hands-on exercises during the sessions on finding quick reference sources, developing research ideas and learn where and how to find critical background information by using relevant databases and tools.

New students having a good head start to make use of Library resources

Congratulations to our winners of the Library Orientation Quiz!

The group received their book coupons at the Prize Presentation Ceremony held in Dec 2017 from our University Librarian. During the pre-ceremony sharing session, students enthusiastically expressed their experience in using Library resources during their first year of study in PolyU.

We are very grateful for the comments and we wish our students every success in their studies and research!
