Library users are now welcome to use our new UV-C Disinfection Chamber near the Digital Visualisation Room at 4/F North Wing to sterilize Library’s digital equipment, i.e. laptops, tablets, VR devices, electronic IoTs, headphones and other AV equipment.
Heading into 2021, the Library will continue to provide strong support to meet the needs of students and staff in the new normal, including the use of digital library, services and facilities to bolster online learning and teaching, and more.
PolyU/CPCE students and staff can now enjoy the flexibility to check out and check in digital equipment and AV accessories via the Self-service Kiosks at i-Space and Multimedia Commons respectively. To streamline the process of loan and return of books and audio-visual (AV) items, more self-checkout stations are now available on the Library Podium Floor.

Two new self-service studios will be available in September 2020 to facilitate the production of online teaching and learning materials by staff and students. To adapt to a new stage of learning and teaching, these studios will also be equipped with video conferencing facility for staff and students to conduct online interviews and presentations.
As affected by the pandemic, the Library has temporarily rearranged its physical space for individual study only. All group rooms and 24-Hour Study Area remain closed. As a precautionary measure, it has reduced its seating capacity and all seats are spaced out for social distancing. Barriers are installed for seats opposing one another.
The Library introduced a special Physical Resources Retrieval Service for students and staff in Feb 2020, enabling the continual access to the Library’s extensive physical collections during the Library’s temporary closure. A full self-service model of picking up and checkout of books on Hold Shelf was implemented as facilitated by the Library’s RFID Tagging Exercise. This convenient self-service model continues after the Library reopened on 4 May 2020, while RFID tagging on all printed books goes on.
