The Digital Makerspace+, located at 4/F North Wing, has established itself as a vibrant hub of creativity, hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Serving students and staff from diverse backgrounds, the Digital Makerspace+ offers a growing range of innovative, beginner-friendly facilities and services that support exploration, experimentation, and project developments, enabling users to engage with emerging technologies in an accessible and supportive environment.

1. Enhanced 3D Printing Services

  • User-Friendly Multi-Colour Printing: Powered by the innovative Automatic Material System (AMS), users can now easily create stunning multi-colour 3D prints, even for complex designs.
  • Free of Charge: Available to all PolyU students and staff at no cost, this complimentary service removes financial barriers to advanced 3D printing, and fosters a maker culture on campus.
  • Advance Booking : Reserve your printing session through the iBooking webpage or the PolyU Library Mobile App. Users can book up to 4 hours per day and 8 hours per week.
Important Note:
Please ensure your print jobs are completed within your reserved session. Any unfinished jobs may be stopped by users or Library staff to accommodate subsequent bookings.
  • Consultation Services: Need help with preparing or printing your 3D model?
    Simply book an i-Space consultation session for personalised guidance and support from Library staff.

  • Ample Storage Solutions: Easy access to equipment, components, and project materials, keeping your workspace organised and tidy.
  • Enhanced Prototyping Tools: Access a wider range of practical tools and equipment to help transform your ideas to life.
  • IoT Devices: Access a range of popular IoT gear through the Self-Service Kiosk (Makerspace), including Raspberry Pi, Arduino Uno, and ESP32. These devices are available to support learning, experimentation and innovation, providing users with accessible tools to explore, develop and test IoT solutions.

Designs specialised for makers, innovators, and IoT enthusiasts, the new IoT Worktable provides a productive environment where creativity and technology come together.

 

3. Latest Technology Devices for Borrowing at Self-Service Kiosk

A comprehensive range of cutting-edge technology devices is now available for borrowing from the Self-Service Kiosk (Makerspace). Designed for both in-library and off-library use, these tools empower creativity, innovation, and seamless project development.

Highlighted Devices:

  • 360 Cameras: Create immersive content for innovative storytelling and engaging experiences. With dedicated software, you can even craft detailed 3D scenes, adding a new dimension to your creativity.
  • Mobile Shooting Kit: Elevate your presentations, research showcases and projects with advanced equipment, including Video Camera (Osmo Pocket 3), Smartphone Stabilizer & Wireless Microphone.
  • VR and AR Gear: Explore the possibilities of extended reality with VR Headsets (Quest 3), AR Glasses (Air 2 Pro), and VR Trackers (mocopi). These tools are ideal for virtual and augmented reality development, immersive simulations, and cutting-edge tech projects.
  • 3D Scanners (Shining 3D EINSTAR): Capture physical objects with high precision and convert them into accurate virtual replicas, perfect for your digital design and 3D modelling projects.

4. Project Lockers for Prototypes Storage

Designed to store prototypes, models, and other work-in-progress items, the Project Lockers offer a convenient storage solution, eliminating the hassle of transporting heavy and bulky materials, and encourage more effective project development for i-Space users.

  • Who can apply?
    PolyU staff and students enrolled in programmes leading to PolyU awards.
  • Loan Period
    Up to 1 calendar month.
Important Note:
The loan period begins on the first Monday of the month, or the date of approval, and ending on the last Friday of the same month.

    Advance reservation is required. Please arrange a consultation session before making your reservation.
