Digital Scholarship Services – Embracing Digital Transformation of Learning and Scholarly Research

The Library’s Digital scholarship services provide digital tools, support and resources for researchers and students to engage in innovative digital projects and to embrace digital transformation in their learning and scholarly research. These services are made possible through specialised software, high-performance PCs, equipment for digitisation service, self-service studios and Digital Visualisation Room at i-Space (4/F North Wing) and 3/F (North Wing), as well as collaboration in digital humanities projects.

Expanding User-friendly Self-service Library Facilities

The Library has introduced different self-service facilities to enhance user experience, such as self-check stations/kiosks for borrowing and returning of books, AV materials, notebooks, tablets and other digital equipment, round-the clock automated book return station, laptop lockers and sterilisers for books and digital equipment, etc. With these self-service facilities, you can enjoy greater convenience and easier access to library collections and services.

Self-service Studios for Video/Sound Recording and Multimedia Production

With simplified and user-friendly setup, five new studios at 3/F North Wing including two One Button Studios, two Sound Recording Studios and one Multimedia Production Studio enable students and staff to produce video contents quickly and easily regardless of technological proficiency. These self-service studios have come into service since February 2023 and marked another milestone for the Library Extension and Revitalisation Project (LER).

Express Book Checkout Kiosk at 4/F South Wing

In an attempt to incorporate emerging technologies into the borrowing service, the Library has recently built an Express Book Checkout Kiosk with IoT to improve user experience during checkout. Come and try the Express Book Checkout Kiosk near the lift lobby area at 4/F South Wing! 

User Friendly Self-service Library Facilities

Self-check Service for Loan and Return of PolyU Books and Audio-Visual Materials

The Library self-check service has been further enhanced and extended to cover the returning of Library materials. Through a designated self-check station on the Library Podium Floor, you can return books and audio-visual materials on your own during Library’s opening hours.

New Online Learning Studio

To support online learning and teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, a new Online Learning Studio (3/F) is now available for students and staff to have live classes and discussions. Try our new studio now!

Sterilization of Library’s Digital Equipment with the New UV-C Chamber

Library users are now welcome to use our new UV-C Disinfection Chamber near the Digital Visualisation Room at 4/F North Wing to sterilize Library’s digital equipment, i.e. laptops, tablets, VR devices, electronic IoTs, headphones and other AV equipment.

More Self-check Services and Facilities

PolyU/CPCE students and staff can now enjoy the flexibility to check out and check in digital equipment and AV accessories via the Self-service Kiosks at i-Space and Multimedia Commons respectively. To streamline the process of loan and return of books and audio-visual (AV) items, more self-checkout stations are now available on the Library Podium Floor.
