The Library has introduced various self-service facilities to enhance user experience. With these user-friendly self-service facilities, you can enjoy greater convenience and easier access to library collections and services.

Self-check Stations for PolyU Books & AV Materials

Self-check Stations are available for you to borrow and return PolyU Library books and audio-visual (AV) materials by yourselves efficiently. Two Self-check Stations are located conveniently near the Library Entrance/Exit on the Podium Floor. Self-check Station designated for the borrowing and returning of Reserve Collection & AV materials is also available on the same floor. To facilitate on-the-spot borrowing, Express Checkout Kiosks are set up at 3/F South Wing, 4/F South Wing and 5/F North Wing for users to borrow books more conveniently on the upper floors by themselves. The new Express Checkout Kiosk at the 24-Hour Study Centre at 1/F North Wing has also come into service. You may learn the location of other self-check stations and kiosks in the Library here.

Express Checkout Kiosk at 5/F North Wing

A new Express Checkout Kiosk at the 24-Hour Study Centre has come into service.

24×7 Automated Book Return Station

Can’t visit the Library during its opening hours to return library materials? The 24×7 automated book return station provides an easy and convenient way of returning PolyU Library books and AV materials even after the Library closes. No matter the time of day, you can simply follow the on-screen instructions, return library materials, and obtain an immediate update on your library loan record. You can also log in to myRecord to see the most recent status of your library loans and fines. You can find the book return station at the campus entrance near the Library – next to the turnstiles on the Podium Level near public footbridge connecting to Exit A of Hung Hom MTR Station.

Self-pickup Station for HKALL Books

The self-pickup station allows students and staff to pick up books from other UGC-funded university libraries requested through the online Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL) book loan service anytime during library opening hours, without waiting in line at the service counter. Upon receipt of the Pick-Up Notice from the Library, within 5 working days, you may come and collect your requested HKALL book via the self-pickup station located in the Reserve & AV Collections area on the Library Podium Floor with your student/staff ID card.

Self-service Kiosks for Digital Equipment, Notebooks and Tablets

Need digital equipment for study, projects and research? You can borrow and return a wide variety of digital equipment – notebooks, tablets, 360 camera, handheld 3D scanner, drawing tablets and other accessories using the self-service kiosks. In response to the latest needs of library users, more items are available for loan now, including USB charger for notebook computers and mobile devices, USB DVD-RW drive, USB headphone with mic, wireless presenter, and HDMI cable and USB-C hub. Laptop Lockers

The laptop lockers at 5/F South Wing enable you to temporarily store your laptops during library opening hours. Follow the step-by-step instructions to lock your laptops for a short break from studying in the Library. Items stored should be retrieved on the same day before the Library closes.

Sterilisers for Books and Digital Equipment

The Library provides sterilisers for books and digital equipment for your use.

You can use the book steriliser to sterilise books in just 60 seconds. Simply open a book and fix it against one of the holder sticks in the sterilisation chamber. Upon closing the chamber door and pressing the Start button, the UV-C disinfection operation enhanced by the internal air circulation system will start. Up to six books with height less than 45cm can be put in the chamber at a time. The steriliser will stop its operation automatically if the chamber door is opened.

After you borrow digital equipment from the self-service kiosks, you can sterilise the equipment using the UV-C disinfection chamber. Recommended disinfection time varies depending on the size of the object, for example, 5-10 minutes for laptops and tablets, and 3 minutes for electronic IoTs, VR devices, headphones and other AV equipment. The disinfection process will stop immediately when the chamber door is opened.

Self-service Studios for video/sound recording and multimedia production

Located at 3/F North Wing, five self-service studios, including two One Button Studios, two Sound Recording Studios and one Multimedia Production Studio are available for reservation and use by students and staff. For details, please visit here.
