David Yam – Student Helper Behind the Production of Virtual Orientation

The Pao Yue-Kong Library launched a Virtual Orientation Video in the past school year. The Virtual Orientation video leads you to walk around the Library and explore the different services in 3.5 minutes. Under the supervision of Library staff, a team of student helpers participated in the video production process, including preproduction, production and postproduction. David Yam was one of the team members.

  • What was your role in this project?
“I took part in all stages of video production and I was responsible for the work like preparation of storyline, film shooting and video editing. I worked closely with the other team members and also the Library staff, who provided with us the overall framework of the video and its requirement. Once we submitted the draft, Library staff would provide feedback and comments for us to improve our work. Through collaboration, interaction and discussion, we were able to come up with a final product that we were all satisfied with.”
  • What have you gained from the project?
“Satisfaction was the best of all. Despite all the hard work, the video was finally published onto the web and all students and staff can watch it. I hope that they will be able to gain a basic understanding on the Library by watching my video.

Besides, I learnt the skills for searching Library resources that useful for my work and study. Although I was a frequent user of the Library, I was not aware of the hardware and software of the Library until I worked for this Library video project. Now I became the “ambassador” of the Library – all my friends will ask me questions if they have questions on using Library services and resources.

Filming is not related to my study, but it has always been my hobby. I am glad that I can have a chance to bring my skills into practice, and it was fun!”
