New Feature Stories of Outstanding Work by Students

A new round of feature stories of PolyU Outstanding Work by Students (OWS) is now on display until Jul 2021. Visit the OWS exhibition on the Library Podium Floor or the online portal, and share the joy and pride of students!

Nine Modes Manual Online

In a bid to preserve scholarly work of digital humanities projects created by PolyU, the Library has worked with the Department of Chinese Culture (CC) to host the Nine Mode Manual Online database on the Digital Collections Portal. The Database is created by CC for purposes of researching traditional Chinese poetry and vocal arts.

Visualizing the Past: The Hong Kong Photography Collection

The new digital collection of Hong Kong Photography can now be accessed through the Digital Collections Portal. Transformed from slide films, the collection houses an array of digital images of landmarks and notable buildings such as Kowloon Walled City, Hong Kong International Airport Kai Tak and Kowloon-Canton Railway Station. By looking at these photos, users can refresh their memories of Hong Kong in the 1990s-2000s.

Library Support for Online Learning and Teaching

Heading into 2021, the Library will continue to provide strong support to meet the needs of students and staff in the new normal, including the use of digital library, services and facilities to bolster online learning and teaching, and more.

Share the Pride and Learn from Outstanding Work by Students (OWS)

A new round of PolyU OWS exhibition and portal has been launched since mid-January 2021. It features stories from outstanding works by students from Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of English, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Department of Applied Physics.

One-stop Portal for the Digital Collections in the Library

As part of Library’s effort to support digital scholarship, the Library launched the Digital Collection Portal in April 2020 to provide open access to the rare and unique materials with significant research, cultural or historical values from the Library Collection in digital format.

Physical Resources Retrieval Service and RFID Tagging Exercise

The Library introduced a special Physical Resources Retrieval Service for students and staff in Feb 2020, enabling the continual access to the Library’s extensive physical collections during the Library’s temporary closure. A full self-service model of picking up and checkout of books on Hold Shelf was implemented as facilitated by the Library’s RFID Tagging Exercise. This convenient self-service model continues after the Library reopened on 4 May 2020, while RFID tagging on all printed books goes on.

More eBooks available in Course Resource List

The Library has proactively purchased the e-version of print book titles in the Course Resource List. Over 1,300 eBook titles have been acquired to facilitate the remote access of course reading materials.

Special Arrangement for eBook Recommendations

During the period of temporary closure, the Library had relaxed the restriction for eBook recommendations and accepted requests even for those titles with print copy available in the existing physical collections.

Convenient Access to Interim Free E-Resources

The Library brings together a host of free e-resources provided by publishers amid coronavirus outbreak. Grasp the opportunity to explore these resources accessible for free only in the interim period now!
