Meet “PolYneer,” a dynamic team of thirteen ambitious students from the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT). They combined “PolyU” and “Pioneer” in their name to represent their role as innovators and PolyU’s first team in this field. They discovered this game-changing but cost-effective method that can help overcome the therapeutic resistance of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, with the goal of enhancing their treatment outcomes. Their remarkable achievement of winning a silver medal at the prestigious 2023 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition highlights Hong Kong’s rising prominence as a leader in biotechnology on the international stage.
This inspiring story is just one of the eleven new feature stories handpicked by our faculty to showcase and recognise the outstanding work by students at PolyU. Each story exemplifies the dedication, innovation, and excellence that our students bring to their respective fields, contributing to a brighter and more informed future.
