Kick Off Your Research Projects with Research Data Management Services at PolyU

Research Data Management (RDM) is the process of planning, organising, storing, documenting, preserving, and sharing the data collected or generated during a research project.  Whether you are at the beginning of your research project or already working through the processing and publishing stages, the Library has a series of RDM services to support you throughout the research life cycle.   

Data Management Plan Service:

 At the start of your project, you should plan how you will manage your data across the research life cycle.  A Data Management Plan (DMP) may also be required by your funding agencies.  The Library’s Data Management Plan Service on the DMP Tool platform provides templates and guidance to help you prepare your plan.  You can update your DMP as your project progresses and download different versions for your record.

Data Processing Training: 

The Library offers training on data processing.  This fall semester, the sessions cover the essential skills for research data management, data cleaning with OpenRefine (with its AI features), as well as the preserving and sharing data through data repositories. PolyU Research Data Repository:

 Depositing data in an open repository helps you share your data with a global audience and supports the publisher data–sharing requirements.  The PolyU Research Data Repository, supported by our Library, provides a platform to preserve and share your research data.  After you create a dataset in the Repository, a dataset DOI will be reserved for your publication to enable further citation. Before your article is accepted for publication, you can also share the data privately with peer reviewers.  Deposit your data today to strengthen your research visibility and impact through the PolyU Research Data Repository. More details are available on our Library Guide.

Self-Learning Online Course on RDM:

The online course “Fundamentals of Research Data Management” is now available on Canvas for self-paced learning.  The course covers RDM across the data life cycle, an overview of DMPs, data deposit and sharing, as well as data ethics and protection.  Upon completing the course and the accompanying quiz, you will be awarded a certificate of completion.  Register to secure your spot via our Library Online Course page.
