From Collaboration to Impact: PolyU’s OWS Showcase of Collaborative Excellence
May 8, 2026
The Library is excited to spotlight fresh contributions from the Outstanding Work by Students (OWS) Showcase, where collaboration and creativity are shaping solutions with real-world impact.
One standout initiative is Smart Meters, Smart Savings, created by Mr CHO Seong Bin, Mr LIM Jun Hwi, and Mr SHIM Hyun Kyu Sam from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. Working together, the team introduced smart meters into hotel rooms to make energy use visible and actionable. Their project offers hotels a practical way to strengthen environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance by adapting proven technology. This collaborative effort illustrates how student innovation and teamwork can transform sustainability goals into real solutions for the hospitality industry.
Equally inspiring is Unlocking Heart Health: A Team’s Symposium Success, led by Ms LAI Zhiyang Gianna, Mr GEBRETSADIK Gebretsadkan Gebremedhin, and Ms CHAN Wai Ki Vicky from the Faculty of Science. Together, they explored the relationship between polyphenol intake and cardiovascular mortality in older Chinese adults. The team’s rigorous analysis and clear presentation earned them the Young Investigator Award, highlighting the value of collaborative research in addressing pressing health challenges.
These achievements reflect the ingenuity and teamwork that define PolyU students. By tackling issues in sustainability and health, they show how academic excellence translates into solutions with global relevance.
