New Remote Access Method for Library e-Resources

The Library is very pleased to announce that, with immediate effect, valid Library users may access Library electronic resources off campus with a new method. The EZproxy program, a client-free authentication method, will replace the VPN (Virtual Private Network) and WAM (Web Access Management) remote access services for Library resources. Installation of a VPN client in user's computer and logging in through the VPN Network will no longer be required.

In order to access Library's subscribed e-journals, databases, e-books and e-learning materials etc. from a computer outside the University network, users simply need an Internet connection. After clicking on the link of an electronic item from the Library HomePage or Library Catalogue, at the login page, PolyU staff and students should input their PolyU NetID and NetPassword for authentication. Library registered external users (Library Borrower's Ticket Holders and Long Serving Retirees) should login with their Library ID and PIN. Users may then use the electronic items anywhere off campus including from overseas.

The EZproxy server provides an easy and convenient authentication service facilitating access to Library resources anytime, anywhere. This is an excellent example of the Library achieving your Preferred Library Scenario and empowering Library users wherever they happen to be.

Should you require more information about this new remote access method, please consult the Library website at http://www.lib.polyu.edu.hk/remote_access, e-mail lbinf@polyu.edu.hk, or talk to a librarian at 2766-6863.

Best wishes for a new academic term!
