The Information Desk is located on the Podium floor of the Library, directly across from the entrance. Professional librarians are always available at the Desk to assist users with their information needs and any other library related questions or problems.

Information Consultancy Service
To empower teaching and research staff to navigate in the world of knowledge, our Faculty/Schools Librarians can help you to identify electronic and printed resources for your needs. We will also help you to make strategic use of the relevant resources of your area of research and introduce you to the state-of-the-art bibliographic and reference tools.
Please contact your Faculty/Schools Librarian for an appointment or visit the Information Consultancy Centre on the Podium floor of the Library.
Library Hotline
The Library provides a 24-hour interactive telephone hotline (2766-7734) for enquiries and for obtaining application forms by fax. Assistance from Library staff is available during the Library opening hours.
The Library organizes a variety of information literacy programmes.
At the beginning of each academic year, an extensive Library Orientation programme is conducted for all new students to familarize themselves with the Library's services and facilities. Other sessions could be arranged upon request. New users can also join a Virtual Orientation anytime anywhere.

Topical Workshops
A broad array of free workshops on making effective use of information sources and various research tools are organized for the University community. Prgoramme details will be emailed to staff and students for registration online.Tailored Workshops
Upon request by faculty staff, we also offer course-related instruction tailored to the specific needs of individual courses. As these workshops require considerable preparation time, please make advance arrangement with the Information Services Librarian (Ext. 6858). For a group of 10 or more students, you may request a library workshop on a specific topic via the Library Homepage online.
Online Tutorials
Learn information skills at your own pace by joining our online interactive tutorials.
Guides and Information Signposts
Subject guides, selected Internet resources organized by subject clusters and Information Signposts are prepared for users to explore the resources of the Library and beyond. Printed guides are also available on the Podium floor.
Online Information Literacy Programme
The Online Information Literacy Programme is designed to empower library users to acquire skills on selecting information sources, searching for information, evaluating and managing information. Staff and students of PolyU who successfully completed the programme will be awarded a certificate.
Guided Library Tour designed to familiarize new staff and visitors with the Library resources and services is available upon request. Please contact the Information Services Librarian (Ext. 6858) for a Library Information kit and a special guiding session.
Online Searches
Online information retrieval services using the DIALOG, DATASTAR, STN and LEXIS/ NEXIS databases are available to full-time University staff at assistant lecturer level and above as well as research assistants. Staff may be permitted up to a maximum of three approved searches per year. The Library will absorb the cost of this service if funds are available. Staff wishing to use this system should call the Information Services Librarian at Ext. 6858. Research students and full-time final-year degree students doing projects can also utilize this service if their applications are endorsed by their lecturers.
To keep current on the publication of articles and papers, profiles can be set up on various online databases and sources. Please refer to the table that summarizes the availability of current awareness service (email alerts or RSS Feeds) across different database platforms. Please contact your Faculty/Schools Librarian for details.
Return of books borrowed by PolyU JULAC card holders to other UGC libraries can be made at the Interlibrary Loans Counter on the Podium Floor. Please fill in a Book Return Slip at the Counter and return the books in person. Books must be returned on or before the due date.
