A Room for Student with Special Needs (Room L013) is available on the G/F. The room is equipped with a power braille, versapoint braille embosser, aladdin telesensory reader for use by the visually disabled, and computer and printers.
Two specially designed research carrels are available for students with special needs. Advanced booking can be made online in the iBooking System.
Trolleys for carrying books for library users who are on elbow crutches are available on each floor of the Library. There are also seats designated for the use by the physically disabled.
Students with any disability should contact the Student Affairs Office for general assistance. However, please contact Section Head (Access Services) (Ext. 6895) concerning any problems in using various Library facilities.

24-Hour Study Centre / Group Discussion Rooms
6 group discussion rooms are available inside the 24-Hour Study Centre on the G/F for students wishing to conduct discussions. They are available on a first-come-first-served basis. The room is wireless LAN enabled. There are 30 PCs for internet searching and 1 photocopier / printer. During Library opening hours, the room is accessible inside the Library. After Library operating hours, the room is accessible via Core E, please show the security guard a valid PolyU staff / student ID card.

The Media Services houses 124 fully-equipped AV carrels for using audio-visual materials on the 3/F. The carrels will be assigned according to the number of users in the group.
Group Discussion Rooms (Media Services)
Five group discussion rooms in Media Services (3/F) are also provided for user discussions and presentation preparations. Users can connect to the projection screen or 37-inch LCD monitor in these rooms with their notebook PCs for preparing presentations. The rooms are provided to users in a group of 4-18 persons and they are available for online reservation at iBooking one day in advance. A limited number of individual research carrels in the Library are designated for eligible Library users to study privately. 85 self check-in carrels in the Research Enhancement Centre (REC) on the 3/F can be reserved in advance via the Library’s iBooking System, while another 53 carrels on the 4/F and 5/F are for loan on first-come-first-served basis.

REC Research Carrels on 3/F Research Carrels on 4/F & 5/F - One Day Advance Booking can be made via iBooking System.
- The loan period is on a session basis.
- No Advance Booking is allowed. All carrels are loaned on first-come-first-served basis.
- The loan period is throughout the day until the Library is closed.
- Check-in & Check-out
REC Research Carrels on 3/F Research Carrels on 4/F & 5/F - Users are required to swipe their PolyU smart cards at the check-in readers of the carrel within 20 minutes after the reserved session begins.
- If users do not check in within the first 20 minutes, their reserved sessions will be cancelled and released for booking by other users.
- Users can contact the Circulation Counter on P/F to borrow the room key to check in.
- Users are required to check out and return the carrel keys to the Circulation Counter when they finish using the room for the day or before the Library is closed.
- The late return of a key incurs a fine of HK$30 per calendar day.

Besides those PCs in the Photocopying Unit for printing purpose, quite a number of multi-purpose PC workstations installed with MS Office applications and other applications are available to users:
- 33 PCs in Research Enhancement Centre (REC), 3/F (available for iBooking)
- 42 PCs in Media Services, 3/F (available for iBooking)
- 30 PCs in 24-hour Study Centre (G/F) (first-come, first-served)
- 69 PCs in REC Teaching & Learning Lab 1 & 2 (first-come, first-served; available according to the Room Schedule and when not occupied for library events)
Other public PC workstations in the Library are provided mainly for catalogue search and web navigation purpose. For more information on the software/browsers installed in all Library public PCs, please refer to the Webpage on Software/Browsers in Public PCs.
The Photocopying Unit is situated on the Ground Floor, with a service counter which is open during all Library opening hours. Public photocopying machines are available on every floor in the Library. 2 colour photocopiers and 2 large-format printers are available on the G/F. Colour laser printing service is also available. All machines function with stored-value cards which can be purchased with a one-off HK$10 deposit at the Ground Floor Counter or at vending machines on the P/F to 5/F. Octopus can be used for LAN printing and photocopying on the G/F. Users can use the microform scanners to scan microfiches and microfilms to e-files and print to the network printer with charge.
