24-Hour Study Centre/Group Discussion Rooms

6 group discussion rooms are available inside the 24-Hour Study Centre on the Ground Floor for students wishing to conduct discussions. They are available on a first-come-first-served basis. The 24-Hour Study Centre can be entered via the Core E entrance after the library closes.

Facilities for the Disabled

A Special Room for the Visually Disabled (Room L301A) is available on the Third Floor. Please enquire at the Media Services Counter (Ext. 6871) for access to this room.

Trolleys for carrying books for library users who are on elbow crutches are available on each floor of the Library. There are also seats designated for the use by the physically disabled.

Students with any disability are encouraged to contact the Section Head (Circulation) (Ext. 6879) concerning any problems in using various Library facilities.


Group Rooms and AV Carrels

The Media Services Section houses 10 group rooms (accommodating 4 to 30 persons) and 123 fully-quipped AV carrels for using audio-visual materials in the Section. The carrels and rooms will be assigned according to the number of users in the group. Advance booking of group rooms is available to faculty staff only. Please contact the Media Services Counter (Ext. 6871) if advance booking is required. 


Lost and Found

Please contact the security guard at the Library entrance or the Security Office in Room P111.

Microform Printing Facilities

Users can use the microform readers to print hard copies from microfiches and microfilm at $0.5 per page.

PCs with Microsoft Applications

Besides those PCs in the Photocopying Unit for printing purpose, a number of carrels are set up with PCs, Microsoft Office applications as well as headphones in the Media Services Section. They are available for borrowing for up to 3 hours.


Photocopying & Printing Services

The Photocopying Unit is situated on the Ground Floor, with a service counter which is open during all Library opening hours. Public photocopying machines are available on every floor in the Library. 2 colour photocopiers and 2 large-format printers are available on the Ground Floor. Colour laser printing service is also available. All machines function with stored-value cards which can be purchased with a one-off HK$10 deposit at the Ground Floor Counter or at vending machines on the Podium to Fifth Floors. Octopus can be used for LAN printing and photocopying on the Ground Floor.

Photocopying of Microforms are available at Media Services Section (3/F).


Research Carrels

A limited number of research carrels are available on the Third, Fourth and Fifth floors of the Library. Their purpose is for private individual study only and should not be used for discussions. The carrel is for the borrower's use only and the room key is not transferable.  The carrels are for loan during the day, on a first-come-first-served basis at the Circulation Counter on P/F.  There are 5 carrels in L401 designated specifically for staff use.

2. Loan Period

a. All carrels (on 3/F, 4/F, and 5/F) are for loan during the day only.
(i.e. regardless of the time of loan, the loan period will expire at Library closing time at the end of the day).
b. All loans are non-renewable.
c. There is no advance booking, all carrels are loaned on a first-come-first-served basis.
d. User should contact the Circulation Counter on P/F for borrowing of carrel on any floor.
e. A user can borrow only one carrel at any one time.
f. The Library reserves the right to allocate any available carrel to a user.

3. Loan and Return of Carrel Keys

a. Users check-out and return the carrel keys at the Circulation Counter on P/F.
b. The keys should be returned before the Library closes at the end of the loan period.
c. The late return of a key incurs a fine of HK$30 per calendar day. The maximum overdue fine chargeable is HK$120 (4 days). Thereafter if a key is still not returned, it will be considered lost and an additional replacement cost of HK$100 will be claimed through the Finance Office. When the fine of a user reaches HK$80, his/her borrowing privileges of all Library materials will be suspended until he or she pays the fine. In all cases, the key remains the property of the Pao Yue-kong Library.
