Circulation Services
Borrowing Regulations
The Library is open to students and staff of the University. Users may borrow library materials up to a maximum quota and for the loan period according to the category they belong to as stated in the Library Regulations.
Book Return and 24-Hour Book Drop
Books borrowed from the Circulation Collection must be returned to the Library on or before the due date to the Circulation Counter. Late return of a book is an inconvenience to other users and is subject to a fine as specified in the Library Regulations.
Users may return books borrowed from the Circulation Counter through the 24-hour Book Drop which is located at the Library side entrance, on the Podium walkway towards the Hung Hom MTR Station. An express book drop is also available at the Circulation Counter on the P/F.
All library notices, such as date due reminders, overdues, fines, recalls, and reservation pick-up notices, are emailed to users, i.e. PolyU Connect for students, GroupWise for staff, Live@Edu for CPCE students and Outlook for CPCE staff or user's own email account for those non-PolyU account holders.
All loans may be recalled after the item has been on loan for 4 weeks and it must then be returned on or before the new due date. Late return will be treated as an overdue and is liable to a fine.
Wider Reciprocal Access to Other UGC-funded Libraries (JULAC cards)
Full-time academic, research and equivalent status administrative staff, UGC-funded and PolyU's self-funded postgraduate degree and UGC-funded postgraduate non-degree students, may apply for a Joint University Libraries Advisory Committee (JULAC) Library Card for admittance to the libraries of UGC-subvented institutions.
UGC-funded undergraduate degree students at PolyU are eligible to apply for a JULAC Library Card for reader access to the UGC-funded libraries. Registration is valid until 31 July each year and renewal will be required yearly. Students will be charged $50 by each host library for each registration and renewal. Applications for cards should be made at the Circulation Counter.
Apart from undergraduate JULAC cardholders who have reader access privilege only, all other JULAC cardholders may borrow books from libraries of all UGC-subvented institutions. Return of books borrowed by PolyU JULAC cardholders from other UGC-funded libraries can be made at the Circulation Counter on the Podium Floor, on or before the due date.
Books loaned from the Circulation Collection can be renewed twice, provided that there is no request for the same item. Overdue books may also be renewed and fines still need to be paid when books are returned. Online renewal is available at "myRecord" on Library homepage. For undergraduate, graduates, special borrowers and general grade staff, books can be renewed within 1 week of the due date. For postgraduates, academic and administrative equivalent staff members, books can be renewed within 28 days of the due date.
Request for Searching Items Not on Shelves
If an "available" Circulation, Serials or Reserve item is not found on shelves, user can report the case to the Circulation Counter. Our staff will try to locate the item. User will be informed of the result by phone or email.
