Secondary Sources

Materials that report or comment on a primary source.

Examples:

-- Journal or magazine articles;
-- books reviews, commentaries or criticism;
-- Textbooks or encyclopaedias.

Merits:

-- Information is distilled, analysed and re-packaged into another format, so might be easier to digest, or more accessible.
-- A different or, even contrasting point of view might be argued by other experts in the field. New findings or contradictory arguments might be established.

The nature of your research and your information needs will determine which type(s) of sources are more appropriate. In some cases, you may need to consult both primary and secondary sources for a sound argument.
