How to Find Local Television Programs
This Search Guide shows you how to search for Library's Local TV Programs in the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
The Library's Local Television Collection contains nearly 20,500 programs (as of July 2005), covering current affairs, documentary and instructional programs produced by TVB, ATV, RTHK and Cable TV since early 1980’s. Starting from December 2004, local TV programs are available in DVD format while those released in 2002 are also available for remote access in the Library's Video-on-Demand web page.
Click to enter the Catalogue Menu from the Library Catalogue icon.
Pull
down the “Change to” list to select Local TV Collection.
In the
Local
TV Collection web page, you may
Search
for solely local TV programs by title, subject, keywords or call number.
Enter
the title or the first few words of the title to search.
Program titles or series titles can be used in a title search.
Series title – e.g. 鏗鏘集, 時事追擊, 新聞透視, Media Watch. Newsline, Money Magazine, etc.
Program
title - the title of the program episode, e.g.
醫藥分家,
Smoking ban, etc.
Omit initial articles, such as “A”, “An” & “The”.
After a title or subject search, limit or
refine the search result by pressing "Limit this Search" or "Modify Search" button.
Specify the range of publication year if necessary.
e.g. “After 2000
and Before 2002” for programs broadcast in 2001.
Specify the desired language – Chinese or
English, if necessary.
Specify particular words in title or subjects,
if necessary.
Enter
the distinct words or phrase containing information of the required program(s).
Or
select “Title” in the drop-down list and enter any title
words of the program(s). Use the Boolean operator
“and” &
“or” between the search words, where necessary.
Specify
the publication year and/or language, if necessary.
Make
sure Local TV Collection is specified in the Collection Subset field.
An English program summary prepared by the Library is provided in most
local TV program records to describe the content outline of the program.
Words in this summary are indexed and can be used in keyword search.
